How old are the women who stay at the home?
We normally serve women up to age 23. The average age is 17 years old.

What does it cost to stay at Ruth Harbor?
There is no cost to stay at Ruth Harbor, however donations to the ministry are welcome.

How far along in my pregnancy do I need to be before I can come to Ruth Harbor?
You can come any time during your pregnancy.

Can I be forced to come to Ruth Harbor?
No. You must make your own
decision to come to Ruth Harbor.

How long can I stay at the RUth Harbor home?

How long can I stay at the Ruth Harbor home?
Until you deliver your baby. By then, we will have assisted you in preparing a transition plan back into the community.

Do you provide a place for me to live after my baby is born?
We will assist you in making plans and exploring housing options in preparation for completing our program.

Can my family and friends visit me?
Visits occur weekly, but the length of the visit is determined by the amount of time you have been in the program.

If I come to Ruth Harbor, do I have to place my baby for adoption?
No. We don’t encourage or suggest what you should do with your baby. Parenting or placing for adoption is your decision. However, it is required that you complete both curriculums.

If I decide to place my baby for adoption, will you help me find a couple?
We are not an adoption agency, however we will refer you to several adoption agencies for assistance.

When and how was Ruth Harbor started?
Ruth Harbor was founded in 1996 by individuals in the community who wanted to provide a safe, Christ-centered place for women to go during their pregnancy.

How many women can stay at the home?
Our home can house up to eight women.

Do I have to live in Des Moines in order to come to Ruth Harbor?
No. You may live anywhere in Iowa, or in another state.

I already have a child. Can I bring him/her with me?
No. Ruth Harbor is not able to care for children.
