Job Description:
House Parents (and Relief House Parents)

1. Qualifications

a. be qualified on the basis of their abilities and personal character to work with birth mothers and to serve as part of a team;

b. be at least 25 years of age;

c. be high school graduates;

d. have had one year of experience involving the supervision of a group of teenagers, or experience of a practical nature in working with youth.

e. be capable of providing leadership and spiritual guidance to each of the birth mothers according to her specific needs;

f. be committed to the sanctity of human life perspective;

g. be able to provide evidence of financial responsibility;

h. be capable of maintaining a neutral stance on the question of adoption vs. parenting the child;

i. be physically able to fulfill all responsibilities of the position;

j. live in the third floor apartment of the Ruth Harbor home (Full-time House parents only)


2. Duties

a. oversee the operation, labor, and management of the house, and maintain a daily log on each resident, indicating both progress and problems;

b. implement devotions and Bible studies within the home and facilitate weekly worship service attendance at a local church;

c. develop a care plan, in cooperation with the Counselor, for each resident, containing goals and objectives with projected dates of accomplishment and shall involve the resident, referring agency if relevant, and family whenever possible. This plan will be reassessed with the counselor quarterly;

d. plan an educational program for each birth mother;

e. make all necessary medical appointments for the birth mothers and provide transportation to these appointments. (At least one staff member or qualified volunteer will accompany the women);

f. procure all items necessary for daily living;

g. plan menus and give instruction in basic food planning/preparation;

h. review weekly with the Counselor the status, progress, and family situation of each birth mother;

i. organize family outings;

j. participate as a member of the community and cooperate in community affairs, as feasible;

k. present themselves as supportive and loving parent figures;

l.
attend staff meetings (at least one House parent);

m. work with the Counselor concerning parents/ legal guardians and birth fathers of babies, as appropriate;

n.
coordinate and supervise volunteer involvement: mentoring, special classes, crafts, etc.

NOTE: Relief House Parents must have the same qualifications and perform the same duties as the primary House Parents. Relief House Parents time commitment is 2-4 days per month.
